Kingcar Education Foundation was established in late 1980, originally named "Kingcar Beverage Education Foundation". Its main work is to cultivate outstanding youth, promote academic attainment, and grant college scholarship.
In response to the many changes in today's world, Kingcar Education Foundation has enlarged its service to society with beneficial activities and a spirit of enthusiasm and compassion. We renamed ourselves “Kingcar Education Foundation” in 1984, and began to hold activities of diverse fields. We registered at the Ministry of Education and transformed into a countrywide organization.
Since our establishment, we continue to promote activities that benefit others and raise the standard of living and quality of life. This year, our guideline is “promoting the beneficial recreational concepts, encouraging individuals to reach their full potential, and giving to society”. We actively develop programs to promote the right recreational concepts in hopes of changing “self-recreation” to “service-recreation”.
Activities Promotion
Service Learning—Practice the Ideal of Leisure Education
Kingcar Education Foundation encourages college students to serve society by inviting them to join volunteer programs. We recently launched the “English Volunteer” program by sending English teachers deep into remote areas. These efforts are good evidence that we are accomplishing our goal of “service-recreation”.
Society Benefit Activities—Building Harmonious Society
Benevolent Activities
Kingcar Education Foundation holds various activities to assist with the needs of society. These activities include: “Warm Encounter” caring for orphans, “We are Good Friends” promoting the academic interaction across the strait, “The 30-Hour Famine” sponsoring Africa, and “Light a Lamp for the Hill” helping the aboriginal races from the mountain areas of Taiwan.
Caring for the Minority
With the hope of helping those with disabilities, Kingcar Education Foundation has sponsored and supported these special activities in recent years: a Taipei delegation to Austria, Americans’ and Canadians’ participation in the “Special Olympics”, the “International Marathon Race” in New York and Paris, “Special Swimming Games”, and “Table Tennis Competition for those with Disabilities”. We want to encourage these individuals to strive for outstanding performance in these areas to bring honor to their country. By focusing on their strengths instead of their weaknesses, we are promoting respect for all life.
Thanksgiving and Rewarding—9.21st Earthquake Recovery
The tragic earthquake of September 21, 1999 left people in Taiwan with unlimited sorrow and pain. Kingcar Education Foundation sponsored the reconstruction of Yong-Le and Hsin-Yi elementary schools and joined San-Cheng elementary school to host more than a thousand children at the “9-21 Thanksgiving Camp”. We also worked with the Public Radio System to collect more than 20,000 books as Christmas gifts for the children in the disaster area.
Experiencing Learning—Innovative Leisure Activities
Camp Activities
Promoting the idea of Assisting Children’s Lives and Enlightening Young Minds, Kingcar Education Foundation holds many “Fu-Di Activities” including “Music Camp”, “Ecology Camp”, “Basketball Camp”, “EQ Maturing Camp”, and “Weekend VERY Camp”. These activities are all intellectually, creatively, and actively designed to cultivate children’s interests and independence. These camps also enable children to take responsibilities for their family, school, society, and themselves.
Sport activities
To encourage exercise, Kingcar Education Foundation holds activities, such as “Kingcar Cup Soccer Game”, “MQ Sports Expo”, “Weekend Sports and Health camp”, “Kingcar Cup Teenagers’ Basketball Game”, “National Community Juvenile 3 on 3 Basketball Game”, “Community Basketball Engineering”, and “Basketball DIY Series”. The goal of these activities is to expand physical education in Taiwan and develop young people’s ability to take responsibility, obey rules, admit defeat, and learn the value of teamwork.
Breakthrough in Entertainment
Kingcar Education Foundation was first to introduce the Group Energy developed in the western countries. We held activities like “Teachers’ Learning and Studying Workshop”, “Educational Improvement from Heart— Breakthrough in Leisure Education”, “4Q Capability Development camp”, “the 21st Century Leader Cultivation camp”, “Mummy Gas Station” to initiate the tutorial spirits and set up educational goals, dedicating ourselves to improve educational environment in Taiwan through exciting and interesting team activities.
Creativity and Technology
Kingcar Education Foundation held “Aerospace Technology” lectures and brought kids to enjoy the aerospace science in the “American Aerospace Camp”. We also invited American born Chinese student Hu Yu-Fan to hold “Mini Satellite” roving lectures. Other activities such as “Innovation in Technology —Hydraulic Rocket Designing competition” and “Fly Swiftly Upward—Paper Aircraft” were held to promote these concepts of hi-tech and environmental protection and to encourage young students’ interest in scientific and technological fields.
Society Education Promotion—Develop the Lifelong Educational Environment
Lifelong Learning
Kingcar Education Foundation cares about young students’ safety. We hold activities such as “Protecting the Next Generation”, “Young Consumer-care Policemen selection”, “GREEN CROSS CODE Guidance—Composition Competition”, “HAPPY TO GO”, and “Color your Youth,” which address the needs of the juvenile. We also have “Parents Maturing” lectures and “Community Care and Health” classes which care for the general public and promote lifelong education.
We also put emphasis on reforming the educational environment and respecting teachers. We are dedicated to the cultivation of virtue, and hold activities such as “Rooting in the 21st Century—Education and Expectation Engineering”, and a series of news report projects called “Teachers’ Day” – highlighting the value of respecting teachers. We established a bright vision for outstanding education for the next generation. In 2003, we launched the “Schweitzer Teachers” program, selecting eligible teachers and assisting them in serving the students in remote areas.
As the guard of “lifelong learning trains” during the 1st and the 3rd years, Kingcar Education Foundation promotes “Ecology in Taiwan” and “Knowing Taiwan” education programs, sketches the blueprint of environmental science of Taiwan and of loving Taiwan. We also oversaw the “Foundational Annual Meeting” and initiated the “Day of Lifelong Learning” activity in 2003.
Surveys
In order to better understand the entertainment preferences of different age groups, Kingcar Education Foundation has conducted several surveys, such as “Leisure Activities”, “Parents’ Attitude toward Summer Camp ”, “Weekend Leisure Activities Research”, “Mass Media and Entertainment”, and “Recreational Topics Vote”. The purpose of these surveys is to provide solid reference information for further studies and practical improvement.
In 1999, Kingcar Education Foundation planned the “Unselfish Love Questionnaire” for elementary school students and teachers before Teachers’ Day. They then presented a petition to outstanding teachers of the elementary level. We believe that only joyful teachers can provide students with a positive learning environment.
Environmental Protection
With a special emphasis on environmental protection, Kingcar Education Foundation promotes the study of ecology and oversees the “Ecology Caring Journalist Group” to influence the social public through mass media. We hold the “Ecology Exhibition” and “A Tree, A Salmon” series activities to set up the natural habitat for Oncorhynchus—the National Treasure Fish of Taiwan. We also held the “Return Gray Whale JJ Home” and “Free the Whales and Dolphins” special activities to encourage awareness of environmental protection.
With the goal of preserving local culture, we invited college students and young people from all areas of Taiwan for an exciting adventure visiting Taiwanese aboriginal races and ancient monuments.
Connecting to the World—Welcome to the Global Village!
English teaching
As we live in the “E generation”, language becomes a vital skill for all people. To assist with this, Kingcar Education Foundation holds the “Character English Camps” to teach students English and combine moral education and outdoor activities in an interesting way. We also invite teachers from the Institute in Basic Life Principles to teach English in the remote areas and narrow the gap between city and the country.
To spread the benefits of English education to as many as possible, we collaborated with the Public Radio System to launch the “Taxi Drivers, Speak in English!” program. Since 2002, we’ve worked together with The United Daily News Group to have “Overseas Book Drives” to collect 60,000 English books for children’s libraries in remote areas.
United Nations College Students Summit
With time changes, young people need not only to understand the national events, but also to take the responsibility of being a member of the global village. Kingcar Education Foundation assembles a team of young students to take part in the “United Nations College Students Summit” to help them connect with the “real world” and extend their worldview. We also constantly expand many of our domestic activities to international ones, creating a new vision for a local non-profit organization.
Conclusion
What kinds of attitudes toward life do we hope the next generation will have? Facing the trend of globalization, international viewpoint, creative groups, good character, charity, and environmental protection will be critical requirements in the future. With the concept of “Global Sight, Local Eyes”, the most important ways to link ourselves with the world are summed up in these four points: “Environmental protection”, “Internationalization”, “Creativity”, and “Learning to serve”.
We sincerely invite you to join our efforts to educate the next generation.
